NanoFusion - Project Update and Next Steps

Build-Off Result

I'm sure some people will be wondering about the status of the NanoFusion project going forward. Naturally, the outcome of the Nano Build-Off was pretty disappointing for me personally. After initially receiving such a wave of positive feedback here on reddit, it was unfortunate to not even crack the top 20 projects.
In spite of that result, I think the community's desire to see a trustless privacy protocol in the Nano ecosystem is actually quite strong. I believe this Build-Off result is primarily a reflection of the judging criteria, which skewed strongly towards apps that were already somewhat polished, and able to be tested by one person within the space of 10 minutes. This naturally disfavours a project like NanoFusion which is still a proof-of-concept, and requires multiple participants in order to properly use it. All that to say, while I applaud the winning projects for their efforts, and extend my gratitude to Nanillionaire for sponsoring the event, I don't believe that the Build-Off result gives a full picture of the community's true priorities for future development of the Nano ecosystem.
Nevertheless this result points to a stark reality: NanoFusion is not yet ready for consumer use, not by a long shot.

What will it take for NanoFusion to be consumer-ready?

Protocol and Reference Implementation Status
There is a small amount of work to be done to finish the reference implementation of the protocol. The binary tree of input mix accounts has been constructed, but the code is not yet written to actually execute the mix, nor to trigger and execute refunds where necessary. That is really the last step that needs to be completed for the reference implementation, and it's not especially complicated. The tricky bit is that there are still a few bugs around communication between the clients that need ironing out. But those are relatively minor bugs, I'm confident they won't require fundamental changes to the protocol or the implementation architecture.
However, once the reference implementation is complete, that is where a whole new set of challenges begins.
Wallet Integration
The primary challenge will be to integrate NanoFusion into one or more popular wallets. For a privacy protocol to be most effective, we need as many people as possible using it. In a cryptocurrency like Nano, where transactions and addresses are all publicly visible on a block explorer, privacy is achieved by making it difficult to determine which transactions belong to you. Making it difficult is a matter of having your transactions get "lost in the crowd". The crowd of transactions that might potentially be yours is called the "anonymity set". We need that anonymity set to be as large as possible, which means we need as many people participating in Fusion events as possible.
The best way to achieve this is to get NanoFusion adopted by popular wallets, and ideally to have it enabled by default. The less decisions that a user needs to make in order to start participating, the better.
This raises one very important question. How do we make it as easy and appealing as possible for the developers of popular wallets to integrate this technology?
Workflow Design
In order to make NanoFusion integration appealing to wallet developers, I believe we need to gear NanoFusion integration around workflows that actually work for end-users of the wallet. This is not as simple as it appears.
The Nano ecosystem is currently geared around the assumption that addresses will tend to be re-used for many sends and receives. This is almost intrinsic to the ORV consensus mechanism. You keep your funds in one account, and the voting weight for that account is assigned to your representative.
In a UTXO-based cryptocurrency, BCH in particular, it is much more normal to use a separate subaddress for every incoming transaction. CashFusion on BCH works by taking all your different receive addresses and mixing the funds from those addresses together (along with the funds of many other people's subaddress sets). But on Nano it's different. Imagine you have an online store accepting Nano funds via BrainBlocks integration. If you receive 100 payments, you might have BrainBlocks forward them all to just one account that you own. But this makes it trivial for a customer to look at the block explorer and see all of your sales volume, which completely undermines your privacy.
In the context of something like BrainBlocks, it's easy to see how our e-commerce store could generate a new address for each transaction, and have BrainBlocks forward funds to that new address. Then we could run NanoFusion later to obscure the linkages between our individual sales. But what about addresses that are shared in public? Lots of people put up single Nano addresses to receive donations, etc. What does NanoFusion do with those? For NanoFusion to be most effective, a given user should NOT have just one input and one output account in the mix. It makes it too easy for their input and output accounts to be linked (at least to a moderate-to-high degree of probability) by the publicly visible amounts in the accounts.
For NanoFusion to be most effective, we need to develop a culture where it is normal for people to use a new address each time they receive some nano. How do we make it appealing for wallet developers to build their wallets this way? I don't really know. The only example of this pattern that I know is Nanonymous (https://github.com/LilleJohs/Nanonymous). We could potentially implement something like stealth addresses, so that the user really gives out one canonical public address, but a different receive address is actually used for each transaction "under the hood". However, that adds a whole new layer of complexity. It means wallets have to be upgraded to know how to interact with a stealth address.
API Design
Even if we could arrange things so that it was more common for individuals to have multiple input accounts to mix, we would still be left with another question. What would wallet developers want the API for NanoFusion to look like? By nature, NanoFusion requires a large number of messages to be sent back and forth between all of the mix participants. For security reasons, those messages cannot be sent all at once. Player A has to wait for Player B to send message 1 before it is safe (cryptographically) for Player A to reveal the content of message 2.
What should a library look like that manages that complexity on behalf of the wallet developer? What language should it be written in? I have begun this project under the assumption that the most common wallet-dev language would be javascript, but there may be cases where other platforms are needed.

Where To From Here?

Technical Reflections
Thinking through all of these practical challenges has given me a new perspective on the whole issue of cryptocurrency privacy protocols. I have a much greater respect for what has been achieved by the Monero project. In Monero, everyone actually uses the privacy protocol. As described above, that is no small accomplishment. Even though the privacy protocols for Dash, ZCash, BTC and BCH do basically work, their use is not widespread. Even leaving aside the issue of the extra transaction fees incurred (which is not such a problem for Nano), these optional privacy protocols are just not that convenient to use. Because not everyone uses them, the anonymity set is not nearly as large as it could be. And because not everyone uses them, transactions you do before and after a mix/fusion event leak metadata which can be used to undermine the privacy that you gained by using the privacy protocol in the first place.
Inevitably, NanoFusion will also suffer from this problem. Suppose that 20% of the Nano community starts regularly participating in fusions (a very generous estimate, given the low adoption rate of optional privacy features in the other cryptocurrencies mentioned). That still leaves the large majority of transactions probably re-using addresses most of the time. This means that the non-private majority will leak fresh metadata whenever they interact with accounts that were previously obscured through NanoFusion. This is not an easy problem to overcome. It can only be done with a culture shift towards ubiquitous privacy, and that can probably only be achieved by all major wallets agreeing to enable privacy features by default. Not an easy hill to climb.
Personal Circumstances
For the sake of transparency, I also want to mention that I will be stepping back from NanoFusion for a while. This is simply a necessity of life. Our first child will be born in a few months. Once that happens, I will obviously have a lot going on and much less time available to work on these kinds of side projects. Between now and then, I need to focus on other projects which have more potential to generate some income for my little family. I'm a dad now(!), and my family comes first.
I'm very glad to have (hopefully) contributed some useful groundwork for the process of bringing privacy to Nano. This project also gave me the chance to learn some new technologies at a much deeper level, I'm grateful that too. Neverthless, for the foreseeable future, I'll be stepping back. I don't make that decision lightly. I put a lot of blood, sweat and tears into bringing NanoFusion this far, so I definitely hope it doesn't just fall by the wayside. I hope others will pick it up and run with it in my absence.
Call to Action
Want to make NanoFusion happen? Here's what we really need next:
  1. Wallet Developers - we need you to speak up. Tell us, what would an ideal NanoFusion API look like? How can we make it as easy as possible for you to integrate NanoFusion into your wallet app? What programming language do you want to use to consume that API? What I would love to see is several wallet developers collaborating together to create a document describing their ideal API. That will make it much easier for potential developers to pick it up and start implementing it.
  2. Javascript developers - are any of you interested in stepping up and finishing off the last bits of the reference implementation for NanoFusion?
As always, details of the project are available at http://nanofusion.casa (including demo videos, technical whitepaper and the link to the GitHub repo).
God bless everyone, thank you to all those who have followed along and offered so much encouragement for this project.

GIC - Use your tablet to control Elite Dangerous!

GIC - Use your tablet to control Elite Dangerous!
Elite Dangerous tablet controls demo
Greetings CMDRs! A long while back I posted in here about a free, open source app I've been working on that I thought might be of use to others. I've recently made some updates that I thought would be of interest to people in here!
What is it?
Gaming Interface Client - GIC - is a fully customizable app for your tablet or phone that lets you send keyboard commands from your device to any game or application on your Windows PC - such as Elite Dangerous. It is also 100% free. Source code and more info is available here - https://github.com/Terence-D/GamingInterfaceClientAndroid/wiki For now it's Android only but.. see below. I've also attached a screenshot as an example - my graphic skills are pretty lacking, but hopefully you get the idea! The buttons on the top right are for controlling media playback.
- Build your own layout. You are definitely NOT stuck with what I've built.
- Use your own Graphics. If you have an icon set, you can use them in here to replace the default buttons, switches, or even just images. Again, you are not stuck with my art skills!
- Share your screens - you can export them to backup or share with others
- Use multiple devices at once
Whats New for CMDRs Specifically?
- The big change for ED is I've included sample screens for people to use - no need to build your own if you don't want, just choose "ED" from the startup wizard and your device size. I'm slowly adding default screens for games that I play, and open to suggestions! Note if you already have an older version of the app, you can rerun the Intro from the Main Menu's menu button.
- Building support for other OS's - such as iOS devices, but possibly even Windows, Linux, Web?? etc.. I've started rebuilding the entire app from the ground up to be cross platform. The good news is I don't have to do it all at once. The intro and main view are "cross platform" already, the rest will be coming in future releases. Once done I'm still not sure how I'll handle iOS due to the signficantly higher costs, but I'll worry about that once I have to.
- To answer the inevitable question.. If you install via Google Play, there is an "In App Purchase" note in the app listing. This is for a 100% optional way to support me via donations. I'm not here asking money - feel free to not pay a dime, you'll get the same experience as everyone else.
What about app xyz?
This isn't the first app by a long shot to do this, but I wanted something I didn't have to spend a lot of money on. Also for a system grabbing input, I wanted it open source to verify it's not hiding a sinister purpose. Plus I enjoyed the challenge!
So how do you use this?
First you'll need an app running on your computer - this is open source too and can be gotten from the link here:
https://github.com/Terence-D/GameInputCommandServewiki
For the Android app, you can download from GitHub (binary and source available), Amazon, or Google Plays app stores. Note that Amazon / Google Play may take a few hours before the latest version is visible - please ensure its 4.1 to have the Elite Dangerous related changes!

Any questions or comments, please let me know and I'll answer as best I can, thank you.

There's also plenty of stuff in game to help learn in the Study section and being able to analyze your games/openings.

Meteorfall: Journeys - Extremely polished card-based roguelike. Classes are each fairly unique, and each run feels great.
Mighty Heroes - It's nice to have a card game that can be played in portrait mode. I just grabbed this off the play store myself so I'm not sure how balanced or nuanced the play is yet but I've enjoyed the 2-3 hours I've put into it so far. If you play you'll get serious Hearthstone vibes, but the combat is a bit different as your monsters only attack straight ahead, and don't generally take damage when they attack.
Miracle Merchant - In Miracle Merchant you become the apprentice of a master alchemist who creates potions for thirsty customers. By mixing and combining different ingredient cards you create powerful potions based on the needs of your customers.
Night of the Full Moon - A stand-alone card game. There is no mandatory beginners guide, no internet connection, no brush map, no ten strokes. The plot will be played in the card battle. Each NPC and BOSS are given a mission and a temperament. Different choices will bring different endings.

Onitama - Immerse yourself in an ancient Japanese setting and discover Onitama, an exciting, fast-paced strategy game! Onitama is somewhat reminiscent of chess and rather addictive with its dynamic game mechanic in which warriors face off so their master may win the game. Concentration and luck are the only weapons you'll have at your disposal! You'll need to fully master mind and body to defeat your opponents.
Ordia - A one-finger platformer where you play as a new life form taking its first leaps into a strange and hazardous world.

Adventure into this world of blocks: explore, gather resources, farm, mine ore... Build an empire of epic proportions, train your warriors and send them to fight with armies of other civilizations. A new take on the classic strategy 4X game with beautiful low poly art.
Puzzle & Dragons - A gacha based puzzle game, where you build your team of monsters and try to overcome enemies with different abilities in dungeons. There's quite a lot of depth to the game but it can get super grindy if you are trying to keep up with the collaborations and events in game. Think bejeweled but where you can make multiple matches of 3 or more gems in one turn. Each of your monsters has one or more special abilities that can be used, and you have one "leader" with passive abilities and a friend's monster you can bring along that also provides a leader ability. I still come back to this but when I was first into it I couldn't put it down for the longest time until I burned out. It's nice that there is a coop mode as well.
Really Bad Chess - Really Bad Chess is just like chess, but with totally random pieces. Try 8 Knights, 4 Bishops, and 3 pawns — why not?

Unlock new classes to try different strategies and have unlimited fun. Each run is unique, choose your path, find enemies, elites, bosses, merchants and treasures, and build your perfect strategy.

Personalize and design your store, build epic armor, swords and gear for the heroes to defend your village. Team up with blacksmiths, tailors, priestesses, carpenters and herbalists to make your business prosper. Trade, sell or auction your products to the highest bidders from other shops. Sell your goods to warriors and even add a surcharge!
Siege: Titan Wars - Similar to Clash Royale but much faster based and rather unique as well. I dropped most of my other games besides this one and COD.
Skyforce Reloaded - The spirit of the retro arcade shoot‘em ups, captured with modern visuals and design. New entry in the series will keep you entertained with all the things you’ve came to love in scrolling shooters. Meaty explosions, incinerating lasers, collosal bosses and diverse aircrafts to pilot.

Can you manage your resources, crew and officers well enough to turn a profit in the complex economy that’s sprawling across the on-going interstellar conflict?
Sudoku - The Clean One - Basic Sudoku game. Don't play it all that much anymore, but it was the best of the bunch when I did.
Super Fowlst - Great little roguelike that can get quite intense. I usually play more chill games but this one scratches that Action-game itch when I get it.
Tap Healer - Healing Touch - A great game that gives you the feeling of playing a healer in an MMO. You'll have npc allies that will tick damage on the enemy as you use your different abilities/talents to keep them alive. If you enjoy playing as a healer in RPGs this game is worth checking out, there's not really a story but as you progress you can actually see what it's like to play a healer in small dungeons or eventually large raids.

netdata, the open-source real-time performance and health monitoring, released v1.17 !

Hi all,
Release v1.17.0 contains 38 bug fixes, 33 improvements, and 20 documentation updates.
At a glance
You can now change the data collection frequency at will, without losing previously collected values. A major improvement to the new database engine allows you not only to store metrics at variable granularity, but also to autoscale the time axis of the charts, depending on the data collection frequencies used during the presented time.
You can also now monitor VM performance from one or more vCenter servers with a new VSphere collector. In addition, the proc plugin now also collects ZRAM device performance metrics and the apps plugin monitors process uptime for the defined process groups.
Continuing our efforts to integrate with as many existing solutions as possible, you can now directly archive metrics from Netdata to MongoDB via a new backend.
Netdata badges now support international (UTF8) characters! We also made our URL parser smarter, not only for international character support, but also for other strange API queries.
We also added .DEB packages to our binary distribution repositories at Packagecloud, a new collector for Linux zram device metrics, and support for plain text email notifications.
This release includes several fixes and improvements to the TLS encryption feature we introduced in v1.16.0. First, encryption slave-to-master streaming connections wasn't working as intended. And second, our community helped us discover cases where HTTP requests were not correctly redirected to HTTPS with TLS enabled. This release mitigates those issues and improves TLS support overall.
Finally, we improved the way Netdata displays charts with no metrics. By default, Netdata displays charts for disks, memory, and networks only when the associated metrics are not zero. Users could enable these charts permanently using the corresponding configuration options, but they would need to change more than 200 options. With this new improvement, users can enable all charts with zero values using a single, global configuration parameter.
Improvements
Check the release log at github.
If you are new to netdata, check a few live demos at its home page and the project home at github.
Netdata is FOSS (Free Open Source Software), released under GPLv3+.
Enjoy real-time performance and health monitoring!

Changes that could be made to Climbey to get on the Oculus Store

I heard about Climbey being the most popular SideQuest game, and saw a bunch of people shocked about how Oculus could possibly refuse it. Apparently, the only feedback was that it's "not polished enough." Finally gave the game a shot last night, and I noticed more than a few problems, which strike me as red flags for a game that's been in early access for over 3 years:
When the game starts, the Climbey Demo logo overlaps with the game, and the "depth-fighting" is pretty off-putting; there's no smooth transition from loading to playing.
The buttons on the options menu don't work. Part of the problem is that interacting with the menu involves using big hands with thick fingers to press small buttons; it feels like there's actual collision with all 5 fingers on each hand, so trying to use one finger while holding that hand horizontally to press one of the higher buttons on, for example, the Comfort menu, will result in pressing the "Start!" button.
Another issue is that even when you hear the "button clicked" noise, the button press doesn't seem to actually register. You keep trying to hit the button, and sometimes the light comes on, if it's on, it probably stays on, if you were just trying out the option to see what it was like before turning it off. I'm not sure why it uses that system over something simple and intuitive like this.
Still on the menu, the most obvious problem with interacting with it is that when you boot up an Oculus Quest for the first time, you play the Oculus First Steps app, which introduces you to the CapTouch sensors on the controllers. You get a really nice hand presence feeling because the headset knows when you're resting your fingers on each button, and has a matching animation for all of that. Climbey gives you hands, but doesn't use any of that.
Continuing with controller issues, Climbey is effectively a 1-button game. The current "VR meta" is that on Vive wands, because the grip button is a crappy, tough click that you don't wanna rely on too much, the "grab" input is generally gonna be with the trigger, or a toggle with the grip button, depending on the game. If you pick up something with a trigger, then it will pull the trigger (i.e. on a gun). On Oculus Touch and Index controllers, however, because you have a nice grip input in the form of grip sensors or an analog grip trigger, you're expected to use an intuitive 3-finger squeeze to pick things up, and continue holding that squeeze to continue holding the item. To let go, simply ease up on the squeeze. Climbey instead puts arm swinger locomotion on the grip trigger and the grip action on the front trigger: as a binary input! It feels awful. If I squeeze the trigger halfway, I should see a half-grip. Just pick an activation point; I hear 20% works well enough as a threshold.
The haptics are no good. I eventually realized that you can't climb on dark surfaces, even though the tutorial robot says you can climb on "any surface." But the haptics should tell you when your hand is overlapping with a climbable surface, maybe combined with an animation change.
The framerate is wonky. There's a jump right before the end of the tutorial level, and the first time I tried it, the game decided to drop something like half a second of frames while I was in midair, causing me to plummet all the way to the bottom, completely resetting my progress. There wasn't a second time.
Movement is also wonky. I usually like arm swinging locomotion, but it's so stilted in this game. It doesn't feel snappy like H3VR, and I don't feel like I'm in control, even when I set it to controller direction. Also, enabling snap turn seems to rotate the level rather than the player's VR origin, so things like flags will react to the turn action, which makes no sense.
The tutorial robot mentions the Steam workshop. Not sure why that line wasn't edited out of its dialog. As a user, how am I supposed to react to that, knowing that the Steam workshop is inaccessible on Oculus Quest? Does that mean I'm only getting the 20 levels mentioned? Am I missing out on tons of content because I'm getting this on Quest and not Steam? Not to mention, that tutorial robot looks like it was ripped straight out of Portal.
That's all I have for now. There are other issues, like the Forfeit button porting you seemingly to the next level from the tutorial level, but this post is too long as it is. If I worked at Oculus, I'd refuse the game for the reasons laid out above. I saw the dev respond to someone else bringing up some of these issues with a sentiment along the lines of "yeah, well, that's how I like it," which is their prerogative, but it might be useful to adopt a more "user first" mentality to this sort of thing, especially when it comes time to try to get into a walled garden like the Oculus store.

[Guide] Android TV De-bloat and Customization

[Guide] Android TV De-bloat and Customization
(English is not my first language, please ask for clarifications if something isn't clear. LONG POST.)
Inspired by this thread made by u/kelrics1910, I decided to share my work customizing my KD-55XF9005 (XF90/X900F - EU version).
I don't like the stock launcher. I wanted to use other launcher and delete all apps I don't use, without losing functionality. With an air mouse I can now side-load and run non-TV apps, like my 'cable provider app' designed to watch TV channels in phones and tablets (somewhat similar to YouView, with 7 day scroll back and other nice features).

This is my TV home screen

  • I'm confident this guide will work with any other models but I'm not forcing anyone to do this, so... PROCEED AT YOUR OWN RISK.
  • Please READ EVERYTHING TOP TO BOTTOM before making any changes to your TV.
  • I did all this work using a Windows PC. If you are using other OS you need to find how to install/use ADB.
  • I will try to make this "noob friendly" but you need to be able to use command lines and edit some .bat files.
  • My TV was updated to v6.6520 and all settings properly configured before making this changes.
EDIT: I'm now on v6.6545 firmware. Update without any issue, no reset necessary and no bloatware reinstalled.
_____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
I will provide links to the apps, but you can download the batch files with ADB binaries here.

READ ALL MY NOTES BEFORE DELETING ANYTHING FROM YOUR TV!

_____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

(1st) Enable Developer Mode and USB Debugging.

  1. You can do this by heading into the Settings menu, then scrolling to "About".
  2. At the bottom of the About menu, find "Build" and highlight it, then click on it several times until you see a toast notification telling you have enabled Developer Mode.
  3. Go back to the Settings menu, and a new entry titled "Developer Options" will be available in the "Preferences" section. Scroll down and head in there.
  4. Now, scroll down to "USB Debugging" and enable it. You'll see a warning, just accept that.
OPTIONAL: you can also change the three Animation Scale settings for a snappier experience. Set them to 0.5x or turn them off completely if you prefer.

(2nd) Run ADB on your PC and connect to your TV.

  1. You need to know your TV IP address in your network. Go to the Settings menu, click in "About" and then "Status". Look for something like "192.168.1.44".
  2. Extract the contents from this zip anywhere you want. Your Desktop, for instance.
  3. Now open the folder "Sony_TV_Debloater". Click with the right button on "1_connect_TV.bat" and select "Edit" (or open with notepad).
  4. Replace "XXX.XXX.XXX.XXX" with your TV IP. Save and close.
  5. Double click the file "Open CMD.exe" and you'll get a window with a command prompt.
  6. Execute the file "1_connect_TV.bat" (press 1, then Tab and finally Enter) and look at your TV. In the "Allow USB debugging?" dialog, select "Always allow from this computer" and select OK.
Content of file "1_connect_TV.bat":
@echo off adb kill-server echo. echo. adb connect XXX.XXX.XXX.XXX:5555 echo. echo. echo Check "Allow USB debugging?" prompt on TV
  • Some antivirus prevent "adb.exe" from running. Just create an exception and allow execution. If you're using a firewall you need to allow outgoing communications from "adb.exe".
  • In this folder you have the portable binaries of "Mini ADB & Fastboot" (July 2019 Update) that I downloaded from xda-developers . Go there for updates and interesting reading about what can we do with ADB.

(3rd) Install an alternative launcher. Or don't. You choose.

If you are happy with the Leanback Launcher that comes by default just move to the next section. But be very careful and DON'T UNINSTALL this packages: com.google.android.leanbacklauncher; com.google.android.tvlauncher; com.sony.dtv.tvlaunchercustomizer.
  • You can delete com.google.android.tvrecommendations to get rid of recommendations row. After reboot there is still a recommendations row that can be disable like any other channel (this was not tested by me).
You can go to Play Store and search for "launcher". Some are free, some are paid. Choose and install what you like, it is important to test if everything works for you before deleting stock launcher. See if you can go to Settings, this is a big issue after deleting some system packages: com.sony.rvu; com.sony.dtv.demomode; com.sony.dtv.b2b.hotelmode.
The launcher I'm using is Square Home 3 - Launcher: Windows style. You can find it in 'regular' Play Store, not Play Store for TV, but it works really well in Android TV environment, supporting both TV and non-TV apps, and the free version is highly customizable. And, very important, it provides two ways to call System Settings: using an air mouse we can press the button Menu, or we can put an icon on screen (see top right corner of my TV screen).

https://reddit.com/link/czuo7q/video/q7h5ogqhlok31/player
Three notes about this launcher:
  • It has a long learning curve to customize. It took me some time to go through all the options and make it look like this.
  • I had to install a file browser from Play Store to be able to browse and choose my wallpaper.
  • You need to download and install the apk file because it won't show in Play Store for TV.
You can use your TV browser to search for com.ss.squarehome2, download and then install, or you can use your PC to download the file into the "Sony_TV_Debloater" folder and use the command (on the same command line from 2nd section):
adb install file_name.apk (replace with actual file name)
  • To my surprise, the TV allowed me to set Square Launcher as default launcher and survived reboots. But just browsing some options in the System Settings, like "Select Retail Mode", restored the Leanback Launcher and deleted my wallpaper.

  • P.S.: The paid version allows random wallpaper changing everyday picked from custom folder:
https://preview.redd.it/26af1uj177l31.jpg?width=960&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=198a3f4e42250a49582dc2ea357f68049cd6bc1d

(4th) Get the list of all installed apps names and locations.

This step allows us to know the packages names (and full path) of ALL apps installed in the TV.
  1. If you need to reopen the command prompt window go to the folder "Sony_TV_Debloater" and double click the file "Open CMD.exe". Then execute the file "1_connect_TV.bat" again (press 1, then Tab and finally Enter).
  2. Execute the file "2_list_installed_pkg.bat" (press 2, then Tab and finally Enter). It will create a file named "list_installed_pkg.txt".
Content of file "2_list_installed_pkg.bat":
adb shell pm list packages -f >> list_installed_pkg.txt

(5th) De-bloating

This is the sensitive part. You need to edit the file "3_delete_apps.bat" and CHECK EVERY SINGLE LINE to see if it does what you want.
Content of file "3_delete_apps.bat":

Every line that starts with '@REM ' will be ignored (REM = remark). For example, if you want to keep Google Keyboard you can delete the 3rd line or edit to look like this: @REM adb shell pm uninstall -k --user 0 com.google.android.inputmethod.latin
Then you can uninstall Sony's software keyboard by deleting the '@REM ' from the 5th line to look like this: adb shell pm uninstall -k --user 0 com.sony.dtv.ime.chww
US, EU, UK, etc versions of the same TV model have different apps. That means you may want to uninstall apps not listed here and you'll have to add them. One way to find the app name is going to Settings > Apps, then click on the app you want to remove. For instance, Google Play Games package name is "com.google.android.play.games".

But you can also open the file "list_installed_pkg.txt" and go through every line. If you recognize the app and want to uninstall it, add a line (for example, at the end, after :endscript) looking like: adb shell pm uninstall -k --user 0 replace.package.name.here
If you can't guess what app is by his package name, try to google that name. If you aren't sure what it is, leave it.
If you are going to keep the stock launcher, it's better to delete the last 13 lines of the script:
@REM This will delete stock TV Launcher
@echo .
@echo .
@echo .
@set /P c=Are you sure you want to remove Leanback Launcher [Y/N]?
@if /I "%c%" == "Y" goto :leanbacklauncher
@goto :endscript
:leanbacklauncher
adb shell pm uninstall -k --user 0 com.google.android.leanbacklauncher
adb shell pm uninstall -k --user 0 com.google.android.tvlauncher
adb shell pm uninstall -k --user 0 com.sony.dtv.tvlaunchercustomizer
adb shell pm uninstall -k --user 0 com.google.android.tvrecommendations
:endscript

When you are satisfied, save the file "3_delete_apps.bat" and execute it in Command Prompt window:
  1. If you need to reopen the command prompt window go to the folder "Sony_TV_Debloater" and double click the file "Open CMD.exe". Then execute the file "1_connect_TV.bat" again (press 1, then Tab and finally Enter).
  2. Execute the file "3_delete_apps.bat" (press 3, then Tab and finally Enter).
  3. Pay attention to the final part of the script. ONLY PRESS "Y" IF YOU INSTALLED ANOTHER LAUNCHER.

  • As it is, this script deletes almost all 'visible apps': Amazon Prime, Google Play Movies, Google Play Music, Google Play Games, stock video player, music player, YouView, Album, YouTube; Google search, web browser... all this can easily be reinstalled from Google Play Store. I didn't unistalled Netflix because that's the only I use.
  • As it is, this script also deletes many apps and services, like Japanese keyboard, TV Control with Amazon Alexa, Android TV Remote Service (for using your phone as a remote control), print spoolers, calendar, contacts, Text to Speach, bug reports, Interactive TV, demo mode, hotel mode, manual and tutorials, and more.
  • I'm sure that US versions have other apps (or packages names) that you'll have to add. I will thank anyone willing to share those apps names.
  • All services like watching, chromecast, screen mirroring, Program Guide, DIAL, recording to HDD, Bravia Sync, should work as expected (didn't test the last three).

(6th) Reboot

Give the TV some seconds to finish all background writing there may be happening and then type on the Command Prompt the following command:
adb reboot
_____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

How to reinstall a system app

Let say I want "hotelmode" back for whatever reason. Looking into my "list_installed_pkg.txt" I find the line: package:/system/priv-app/HotelMode/HotelMode.apk=com.sony.dtv.b2b.hotelmode
  1. Go to the folder "Sony_TV_Debloater" and double click the file "Open CMD.exe".
  2. Execute the file "1_connect_TV.bat" (press 1, then Tab and finally Enter)
  3. Execute the following commands:

adb shell cmd package install-existing com.sony.dtv.b2b.hotelmode adb reboot
_____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

Final notes

  • Instead of uninstalling you can disable any app with the command adb shell pm disable-user --user 0 replace.package.name.here and re-enable it with adb shell pm enable replace.package.name.here
  • I did uninstalled Netflix in my TV. After reinstalling from Play Store a toast error message showed up saying it was not compatible with this device, and another one showed when running the app. Everything played as expected, UHD and Dolby when available. Rebooted and never saw that error again.
  • All apps I deleted are listed in Settings > Apps, but without any information about size or version.

List of Android roguelike ports

Hear me out android users, here is the list of android roguelike ports. Now, there are games like Shattered Pixel Dungeon(And other Pixel Dungeon forks), Wazhack, Caves, Pathos: Nethack Codex, Cardinal Quest 2, Ananias, Sproggiwood, Hoplite, HyperRogue, ENYO, MicRogue, NEO Scavenger, Buriedbornes, Desktop Dungeons, Decknight, Delver, Quest of Dungeons, Dungeon Cards etc. in play store. Most of these games are either android exclusive or very well made like an exclusive game. But there are also lot of ports:
1-Nethack and Unnethack by gurr: Perfect. Believe or not, lot of nethack players now play it on mobile. Interface and controls are just very well designed.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/developer?id=gurr
2-Powder by Jeff Lait: Great port. You can play the Android port or gba version via emulator. Android port is actually beta so it has some problems like you can't adjust the size of buttons, they are little bit small for my phone. Also moving by touch controls isn't like pixel dungeon, you can't tap your destination and wait for your character to reach there automatically like in pixel dungeon. The alternative, directional buttons are better, but you have to play with "safewalk" on which prevents you from bumping into dangerous monsters and attack them unintentionally. You can drag "safewalk" from COMMAND MENU(Not setting menu) to actionbar and make it a shortcut, activate the battle mode whenever you need then disable it when the fight is over. Also i disable "Moving by screen taps" since i use d-pad, sometimes you mistakenly tap screen when you trying to tap d-pad: Settings>Buttons>Screen Tap>Disable. The good thing is, at least Android version has quickslots and it also runs faster than the gba version. For quickslots: i drag sleep and history to left column, safewalk and search to right column. One last thing, you have to "rotate view" in order to play it in landscape mode, otherwise it will be terrible. In gba version game runs slow and there are no quickslots but you can bind commands to a,b,l,r buttons if you tap "select" in command menu or just tap l,r when you are on command. You can use safewalk by enabling it from SETTINGS MENU, then bind the safewalk from COMMAND MENU(Yes there are two safewalk options from different menus) to a button, if you want to attack a monster or open a door HOLD(Not tap) that safewalk button and choose direction. If saving and loading the game is problematic you can save and load it via emulator's save slot. Plus, gba has some problems about memory that causes game to crash, so if your game started to lagging, use options>collapse>collapse the dungeon for clearing the memory, this removes items in past stages. Jeff Lait said collapsing it in every 10 floor is good idea.
(Android beta 3 is on "news" page(2016), gba version is on "download" page) http://www.zincland.com/powde
3-Brogue by bilgencoskun: A brand new Brogue port. Very good port if you do some adjustments in conf. file. Other than that, it has a d-pad. There is also zoom option for small screens:
https://github.com/bilgincoskun/brogue-android-port/releases/
I shared my settings file and some tips about controls in here:
https://www.reddit.com/PixelDungeon/comments/efm4y9/brogue_on_android/
4-Sil by shaosil: Great. Just play it in landscape mode, reduce the keyboard transparency(30 is good). Use the numpad in keyboard for moving. There isn't too many keys in Sil. For example you can use items with one key(u) and there are alternatives for some keys. For example you can't use shift for moving continously so use "." instead. Controls are easy but if you don't like a transparent keyboard that covers half of the screen(Because it can be confusing when you trying to distinguish the ascii graphics from keyboard), there is nothing you can do.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.gmail.ShaosilDev.Sil.SilActivity
5-DCSS by barbs: Great. Now the port is just like Sil. So do what i'm told in Sil section. Of course it requires more keys than Sil but you will mostly use "o"(auto-explore) and "tab"(auto-attack). Also, you can adjust your RC file(It's like settings). If you have bluetooth keyboard you can use it(For example you can't do that in Sil port) to make controls way easier. By the way this port is better than online dcss in phones, but online port could be better on tablets:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.crawlmb
6-CDDA by CleverRaven: Good, updated and playable version of cdda, there are lot of people who use it:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.cleverraven.cataclysmdda
7-Red Rogue by aaron steed: Perfect controls. You can download it for free in:
https://st33d.itch.io/red-rogue
Or support the dev by buying it:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=air.air.RedRogue
8-Angband by cuboideb development: A new port, i don't really know it.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.rephial.xyangband
9-Prime by rumly111: It can be playable i guess? Maker of this port also made doomrl port but it doesn't work. Now in this port there is no transparent keyboard but he puts transparent movement keys and some other keys on screen. You can also use your system's keyboard by tapping your phone's back button on navigation bar or tap to "kbd" icon on screen. It uses more keys than Sil but still not many as far as i know. You can even scrolling menus(You can also use scrolling up or down to move your character up or down, so there are few bugs it seems):

Reddit page: https://www.reddit.com/roguelikes/comments/79usjm/prime_android_port/
10-ADOM, Troubles of Middle-Earth or any other DOS roguelike: Probably hard to play due to the complex keyboard usage(You can use bluetooth keyboard though) of these old games, but you can still try them:
https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=731346078
11-Roguelike Classics(Rogue, Larn, Moria): Hard to play due to complex keyboard usage. And it's not in play store anymore. In my opinion, best way to play original Rogue on Android is playing AGB Rogue via gba emulator(Somehow most gba emulators can't detect agb rogue but "my boy!" works). There is also AGB Hack for gba:
AGB Rogue: https://www.gbadev.org/demos.php?showinfo=585
AGB Hack: https://www.gbadev.org/demos.php?showinfo=680
12-We are Hejickle by pubby: An unbalanced NES roguelike which has plenty of content, you just need an NES emulator:
http://pubby.github.io/hejickle.html
13-DSCrawl by sasq (Linley's Dungeon Crawl on DS): Nice port on DS, good adaptation. Use Drastic(Best DS emulator but it's not free) emulator to play it. Or if you want a free emulator use "NDS Emulator - For Android 6". DS emulators are generally problematic in android so i can't open the game on other emulators. You have to save the game in save states, because in-game save doesn't work. But if you download dldi patched version you can use in-game saves but dldi is working only on Drastic as far as i know. If you have Drastic and want to use dldi version you need to download drastic image file and put it in your Drastic folder. You can find the image file in here: https://www.reddit.com/EmulationOnAndroid/comments/5amciy/november_2016_game_of_the_month_meteora/
Standard version:

ROGUELITE BONUS:
1-Spelunky: Could be a challenge on mobile since it's a hard platform game but you can try:
https://yancharkin.itch.io/spelunky-classic-hd
2-Nuclear Throne: I have no idea about this, but some people like it.
https://toncho.itch.io/nuclear-throne-mobile
3- Risk of Rain: I don't know anything about this but there are some people in youtube playing this on android.
https://www.reddit.com/AndroidGaming/comments/56z9ks/risk_of_rain_on_android_unofficial/
Final words: We will get caves of qud and ultimate adom for android in next years, so wait for it...

[Meta] May and June Monthly Roundup.

Hey /jailbreak!
I forgot to do April and when I went to search for the posts made in April, Reddit decided not to work and it only gave me results from mid-May to now. I apologize if any tweaks may have been missed (especially the ones released in May as Reddit's search gave me only half of May's posts?) If you want a tweak that is not on here and was released between April and now then send me a DM and I'll include it.
This was put together without a bot so some posts might have been missed or there might be some other mistakes. If that is the case PM me and I will fix it ASAP.

netdata, the open-source real-time performance and health monitoring, released v1.17 !

Hi all,
Release v1.17.0 contains 38 bug fixes, 33 improvements, and 20 documentation updates.

APPLE UPDATE GUIDELINES

The App Store is dedicated to the best store experience for everyone. In order to continue providing a safe experience for users and a great opportunity for developers to be successful, we sometimes need to update the App Store Review Guidelines. Please note these summaries of the latest changes and see the App Store Review Guidelines for full details. All guidelines are now enforced for new and existing apps, unless otherwise indicated. Guidelines 1.3 and 5.1.4. In order to help keep kids’ data private, apps in the kids category and apps intended for kids cannot include third-party advertising or analytics software and may not transmit data to third parties. This guideline is now enforced for new apps. Existing apps must follow this guideline by September 3, 2019. Guideline 4.7. HTML5 games distributed in apps may not provide access to real money gaming, lotteries, or charitable donations, and may not support digital commerce. This functionality is only appropriate for code that’s embedded in the binary and can be reviewed by Apple. This guideline is now enforced for new apps. Existing apps must follow this guideline by September 3, 2019. Guideline 5.4. Because VPN provides access to sensitive data, VPN apps may not sell, use, or disclose to third parties any data for any purpose, and must commit to this in their privacy policy. Certain types of apps — such as those for parental control, content blocking, and security — from approved providers may use the NEVPNManager API. Guideline 5.5. (New) Because MDM provides access to sensitive data, MDM apps must request the mobile device management capability, and may only be offered by commercial enterprises, such as business organizations, educational institutions, or government agencies, and, in limited cases, companies utilizing MDM for parental controls. MDM apps may not sell, use, or disclose to third parties any data for any purpose, and must commit to this in their privacy policy. Guideline 5.1.3(i). Apps may use a user’s health or fitness data to provide a benefit directly to that user, such as a reduced insurance premium, if the app is submitted by the entity providing the benefit and the data is not shared with a third party. The developer must also disclose to the user the specific health data collected from the device. Guideline 5.1.1(viii) (New). Apps that compile information from any source that is not directly from the user or without the user’s explicit consent, even public databases, are not permitted on the App Store. Guideline 5.1.1(ii). Apps must get consent for data collection, even if the data is considered anonymous at the time of or immediately following collection. Guideline 1.1.3. Apps may not facilitate purchase of ammunition. Guideline 4.2.7. Remote desktop clients now include game consoles owned by the user. Software appearing in the client must be fully executed on the host device. Demo videos of app functionality that is geo-locked or otherwise restricted are not accepted. Developers must provide a fully functional app for review. Sign in with Apple will be available for beta testing this summer. It will be required as an option for users in apps that support third-party sign-in when it is commercially available later this year.
